Type B Roof & Floor Deck
Type B deck is the industry standard for industrial roofing and floor decking, and one of the most popular profiles in our roof and floor deck offerings. It can be produced in galvanized steel, prime painted steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. All lengths are produced to custom requirements. Standard width is 36" coverage, with limited availability in 30" coverage. This product has excellent load-carrying capabilities. The wide rib allows for a narrow top opening, which is desired when rigid insulation is to be used on top of the deck.
Type B Roof Decking Features
Uniform spacing, precise rib geometry, and dependable fastener locations, supported by our full range of deck accessories, help crews work quickly and maintain consistent quality. This profile transfers roof forces into steel joists and beams while forming a stable base for membranes and insulation.
Galvanized B deck offers economical corrosion resistance, while stainless steel B deck withstands chemical exposure and coastal conditions. Many layouts also benefit from a 1.5-inch B deck when stiffness is a priority without adding unwanted weight.
Corrugated B Deck Performance
Corrugated B deck lends strong performance across projects that need predictable handling and efficient installation. The interlocking corrugated profile minimizes alignment issues and ensures consistent placement across large areas.
Uniform spacing, precise rib geometry, and dependable fastener locations help crews work quickly and maintain consistent quality. This profile is often chosen for clear spans, fast field installation, and stable behavior under live and environmental loads.
Material Options and Specs
Our material options include a wide range of gauges and finishes tailored to industrial environments. Galvanized B deck supports fast-turn orders and routine exposure conditions, while stainless steel B deck offers long-term protection in corrosive or high-moisture settings.
We also prepare optimized cut lists that reduce scrap on large packages and support efficient installation sequencing in the field.
Project Planning and Technical Support
Effective project planning starts with accurate takeoffs and compatibility checks that align your deck profile with insulation thickness and membrane assemblies. Our technical team reviews drawings, recommends fastener layouts, and confirms structural requirements before fabrication begins. Submittals, shop drawing notes, and mill certifications are prepared in advance to help you secure quick approvals and maintain schedule control. | 1. Load tables are calculated using section properties based on the steel design thichness shown in the Steel Deck Institute (SDI) design manual. 2. Loads shown in the shaded areas are governed by the live load deflection not in excess of 1/240 of the span. A dead load of 10 psf had been included. |

Additional Information
Roof deck is essentially the structural component of the roof to transfer the load to the supports – typically steel joists or beams.
The main functions of roof deck:
The main functions of type B decks transfer loads to steel supports and serve as the structural foundation for roof systems. They also:
- Encloses Building from Wind
- Provides Fire Resistance as Part of UL Assembly
- Structural Base of Roof Membrane
- Resists Dead, Snow, Roof Live, Seismic and Wind Loads
- Transfers Wind and Seismic Loads to Vertical Components of Lateral Force Resisting Systems through Diaphragm Action
- Roof Deck Not Intended to Be Watertight in Any Circumstance!!
Please keep in mind that roof decks are not intended to be watertight in any circumstance. Roof deck 1.5" type B offers predictable performance and widespread industry acceptance. This wide-rib profile delivers 36-inch coverage and supports insulation placement or membrane layers across large facilities. For applications involving concrete fill, consider our specialized composite floor deck systems. Most industrial teams specify this profile because it balances material efficiency with structural strength.
Roof Deck 1.5" Type B:
- "B" deck is generally known as "wide rib" deck
- The most common deck profile in the industry and by far the most widely used
- Comes in 36” coverage
